Music Ministry

Music Director: Pat Henry

Music is a very important part of our ministry at Georgetown Lutheran Church. We take our inspiration from Martin Luther, who wrote:

"Next to the Word of God,

the noble art of music...

is the greatest treasure in the world."

And in that spirit, the Georgetown Lutheran Church Pipe Organ was built by Richard Howell of Lynchburg, Va., in 1997. It's a two-manual, 15-rank Baroque-Style Tracker of notable craftsmanship and "noble" sound, located in the rear of the nave.

Our small but dedicated choir practices weekly to lead the congregation in song and to offer anthems in a variety of styles, from traditional to contemporary to world music. We practice in the sanctuary at 8:45 each Sunday morning. New, interested prospective choir members are always welcome to join - or just listen in.

The music ministry and Church Choir strive to incorporate additional musical instruments in our worship, including flute, trumpet, saxophone and percussion. We also are on the lookout for more instrumentalists who might be interested in sharing in practices and church services.

If your computer can play mp3 audio files, you can listen to a small sample of the music typically included with our regular Sunday Church Services. This piece is a delightful duet by our own Music Director, Pat Henry, on our church organ and by GLC member Rick Melrose on flute... please [Click Here] and enjoy. (The mp3 file size is approximately 1.7 Megabytes.)

Each Advent season the choir offers an evening Christmas Carol sing-along on the weekend, featuring the organ with traditional, favorite carols for all to sing with.

If you are interested in joining our choir or playing an instrument, please contact our Music Director, Patricia Henry through the church office, she will be happy to provide you with more information.

Our music director, Pat Henry, earned her master's degree in organ performance from the University of Texas and is a member of the D.C. chapter of the American Guild of Organists.
