Please Join us for our regular weekly worship service Sundays at 10am. We would like to have you worship with us, whether you are in town for business - or pleasure, or just passing through, all are welcome! We especially welcome those returning home from overseas deployments, or on duty at our Nation's Capitol. Please join us for coffee and fellowship in the Parish Hall after the service.
Welcome Children! Parents, a Children’s Bulletin is provided for both services.. Canvas bags with crayons, books, and soft toys are in the Narthex. Feel free to pick one up to occupy your young people during the service.

ASH WEDNESDAY/SHROVE WEDNESDAY SERVICES: The Imposition of Ashes will be offered on February 22 at 12:15 and 7:30pm. Shrove pancake supper at 6:30 before the evening communion service
The Washington Club will be honoring Georgetown Ministry Center, GMC, with the Washington Club Community Service Award at its annual Have A Heart luncheon on February 14 at 11:30. GMC is a neighborhood nonprofit dedicated to ending homelessness in the Georgetown and Foggy Bottom community. Come have lunch on Valentine’s Day honoring GMC. You may register online via InstantSeats.com (search for Have a Heart) or pick up an invitation in the back of the church. The Washington Club is housed in the historic Patterson House at 15 DuPont Circle. Donations are $75 to attend. Forms are in the Narthex.
MEMOIR WRITING GROUP THURSDAYS AT 7:15pm.
Everyone is welcome. There is no prerequisite.. All you need is the desire to write. Bring your laptop or a tablet and pen. Please note, this is not a worship service. It is however, an opportunity to share time with each other much like we did at the Oktoberfest meal last year. A time has not been set. Look for regular updates in future bulletins and via email.
ACTIVITIES AT GEORGETOWN LUTHERAN CHURCH
Outside Groups:
Employment Support Center: Non-profit organization to provide support to unemployed professionals. Interviewing techniques, resume writing, networking skills are taught at weekly meetings by professional speakers.
Little Steps: Music education program for children birth to 5. Classes of 12 children accompanied by a caregiver. Starting in April, 2011.
There are 11 sessions scheduled on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings.
National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts: Washington D.C.’s only fully accredited drama school:
Occupies the lower level of church: Sessions year around.
Weight Watchers: Weight loss group affiliated with national organization.
Meetings Thursdays, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in fellowship hall.GLC Committees and Groups:
Altar Guild: Prepares the sacrament and dresses the altar for Sunday 10a.m. service
Maintains the paraments, service implements, candlesticks etc.

Coffee Hosts: Anyone may host an after church coffee. It is a wonderful time to greet old friends and make new ones. Just let Janet Sharp know which Sunday.
Council: Elected officers and leaders of the church to provide oversight to programs and the physical facility. President, Joanna Ward.
Garden Club: New group forming to assist with the care of GLC’s beautiful gardens. Many of the the plantings are native plants. Of the rest, most are chosen with color, balance, and wildlife in mind. We are a Certified Wildlife Habitat. This is a designation of which we are very proud. In the heart of Georgetown we have many diners - fireflies, honey bees, butterflies, moths, birds, squirrels, and even a pair of racoons. No matter where we live, we can care for nature. Sunday School: Meets at 9a.m. after the 8:30 service. We are not having classes this summer. Currently we have classes for children 2 to 7 years old. More classes to be offered in Sept. 2011 as needed.

Winter Shelter: Three week shelter homeless held in cooperation with the Georgetown Ministries.

A Wider Circle, a small nonprofit Washington organization,
Dedicated to helping individuals and families lift themselves out of poverty, is
urgently seeking basic household furniture to furnish the homes of families

SUNDAY SCHOOL
Sunday school meets in the fellowship hall 9am-9:45, October through May. If you would like to enroll your child, please contact the church office. Or, if you prefer, bring your child at 9am and the teachers will welcome you and your child to worship.. We currently have classes for children 7 years old and younger. Sunday school is not in session during the summer. It resumes after Labor Day.

GLC members and friends prepare sandwiches and packs individual bag meals for the needy of our community. Join us these Sundays to assist in this congregational ministry. We prepare the bags after the 10:00 service. The more help we have, the quicker we finish.
ALTAR GUILD VOLUNTEERS WELCOME!
Altar Guild is always looking for a "few good friends" to sign up for volunteer opportunities at upcoming services. If you are available and willing to serve, you may respond to Cindy DeGrood Morrison. You set up the altar for worship and communion and clean the chalice and altar after the service.
COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Are you a local student, or a student studying locally? GLC is looking for your help, and want you to feel welcome in a "home away from home." We have plenty of volunteer opportunities for upcoming services, or if you are interested we sponsor many vounteer community and church oriented activities. If you are a musician, then we would enjoy your addition to our services. So come and join us at any of our church services, and mention your interest to help to Pastor Gaines. We'd like to say hello and welcome you to the GLC family.

Please think about volunteering to host a coffee hour. It is easy and it is fun! Janet Sharp or Helen Rebholz will be happy to show you where supplies are and how to set up the beverages.
FLOWERS
The 2010 Flower Chart is posted on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall. Please sign up to honor birthdays, anniversaries, for memorials, or for the glory of God. Flowers add so much to the service. You may bring flowers with you or contact a florist which ever you prefer. If you are bringing flowers and need to arrange them in our vases, please arrive about 9:00a.m.and see the member of the altar guild. If you are bringing pre-arranged bouquets with you in vases on Sunday morning, please arrive no later than 9:30a.m. so the Altar Guild may place them. Two bouquets are needed, one for each side of the altar.If you request it, Johnsons Florists deliver on Sundays before 9:30 a.m. (202-244-6100).

Georgetown Lutheran is located at the corner of Wisconsin Avenue and Volta Place, in the heart of the community of Georgetown, in the District of Washington, DC.
By bus, numbers 31, Potomac Park; 32, Archives; 36, Friendship Heights; D1, D2, D6, L2, and the Golden Triangle Circulator all stop one half block from the church at Q street.
From Virginia: Cross the Key Bridge, turning right onto M Street at the traffic light at the end of the bridge. And then make left on 33rd Street. After approximately five blocks, make a right on Volta Street. GLC will be on your left at the end of the block on the corner next to Wisconsin Ave.
From Maryland: Take Wisconsin Avenue (highway 355) south from the I-495 Beltway. Georgetown Lutheran is approximately one mile south of the Washington National Cathedral.
From the District of Columbia: Take Wisconsin Avenue (highway 355) North from M street in downtown Georgetown. Georgetown Lutheran is approximately 5 blocks North and on your left.
Street parking is available in front of the Church on Wisconsin avenue and on neighborhood streets near the church.

"The Conservatory has been successfully training actors since 1975 for careers in theatre, television and film. As the only accredited, professional actor's training studio in the Washington Metro area - our motto is "Acting, more than a job…a life!"
Sexual Minority Youth Assistance League (SMYAL) - a Washington, DC metro area service organization operating out of a Youth Center located at 410 7th Street SE in Washington DC (near the Eastern Market Metro station). They are dedicated to promote and support self-confident, healthy, productive lives for youth, as they journey from adolescence into adulthood. Founded in 1984, SMYAL is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization.
